Job summary

Lac Vieux Desert Health Center in Michigan is seeking a Physical Therapist to administer therapy on an intermittent basis under physician orders and the Director of Therapy Services. You will evaluate function, develop plans of care, and provide timely PT treatments.

The role requires a PT degree approved by major U.S. associations, an active Michigan license, BLS certification, and the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-cultural team environment. Some prior experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a physical therapy curriculum approved by the APTA or AMA Council on Allied Health Education and Accreditation and AMA Council on Medical Education and American Physical Therapy Association.
• Must possess a current, full active and unrestricted license issued by the State of Michigan.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification.
• Two years' experience, preferred.
• Ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assists in evaluating function level and develops the plan of care.
• Prepares clinical and progress notes.
• Provides PT treatment to patients.
• Maintains good teamwork and collaborates with health care staff.
• Communicates patient progress to patients, reports, and evaluations.
• Completes initial history and evaluation and submits plan of care for physician approval.
• Performs PT procedures as ordered by the physician.
• Instructs patients and families in home programs and activities of daily living.

DESCRIPTION:

The Physical Therapist administers physical therapy topatients on an intermittent basis. This is performed in accordance withphysician orders and plans of care under the direction and supervision of theDirector of Therapy Services.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Assists the physician or intermediate careprovider in evaluating level of function, helps develop the plan of care andrevise as necessary.

•Prepares clinical and progress notes.

•Provides physical therapy treatment to thepatients in an accurate and timely manner.

•Maintains good working relationships withcoworkers and facilitating teamwork wherever services are provided.

•Communicates (to patients as well as in reports,daily notes and in evaluations) observations regarding the patient’s progress,lack of progress, goals etc.

•Participates in in-service programs and presentsin-service programs as assigned.

•Understands and adheres to established policiesand procedures.

•Participates with all the health care personnelin patient care planning.

•Completes initial history and evaluation visit,notifies physician of patient needs and submits plan of care and orders forphysician approval.

•Performs all skilled physical therapy proceduresas ordered by the physician.

•Consults with physicians regarding change intreatment.

•Writes reports to physician regarding patient’sprogress.

•Instructs patients and family/significant othersin home programs and activities of daily living.

•Demonstrates sensitivity to cross culturalissues.

•Adheres to the regulatory and practice standardsof Physical Therapy

•Attends all staff meetings and patient careconferences as scheduled.

•Maintain professional and clean appearance ofthe treatment area.

•Effectively communicates with patients andstaff.

•Protect client information and confidentiality.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

•Knowledge of neurological and musculoskeletaldiseases.

•Knowledge of rehabilitative treatment techniquesas utilized by the generalist in treating multiple age groups.

•Knowledge of orthopedic manual therapytechniques.

Skills & Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Graduate from a physical therapy curriculumapproved by the American Physical Therapy Association, or the Committee onAllied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association,or the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association andAmerican Physical Therapy Association.

•Must possess a current, full active andunrestricted license issued by the State of Michigan.

•Current Basic Life Support (BLS) training andcertification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association andmaintain it.

•Two (2) years-experience, preferred

•Ability to exercise initiative and independentjudgement.

•Must maintain continued education.

•Must be able to work as a team with otherpeople.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

•Fast paced with occasional high pressure oremergent situations

•May wear PPE such as gloves or a mask

•Frequent interaction with a diverse populationincluding team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and othermembers of the public

•Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching,grasping, carrying, and speaking

•Occasional bending, stooping, lifting less than20 pounds

•Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50pounds, with assistance if needed

•Frequent use of computer, keyboard, fax and copymachine, and telephone

This position is considered a sensitive position and is subject to drugand alcohol testing.
