Job summary

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks an educator to join the Physical Education Department for the 2026-2027 school year. The role is an exempt, full-time, 10-month position with potential for permanent placement.

The successful candidate will teach PE across K-12, design engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons, and coach at least two seasons of Middle or Upper School athletics, fostering an active and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in physical education and health education.
• 3+ years experience teaching physical education in a K-12 setting.
• CPR and first aid certification.
• Experience engaging with diverse learners.
• Varsity level coaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach physical education across Lower, Middle and Upper Schools.
• Implement a skill based curriculum promoting active, healthy lifestyles.
• Co-teach Lower School classes on locomotive movements, fitness, sports skills, and small games.
• Develop Middle/Upper School classes focusing on life-long skills.
• Design student-centered, engaging lessons and collaborate across faculty.
• Participate in assemblies, advisory, clubs, meetings and PD.
• Coach a minimum of two seasons of Middle or Upper School athletics.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks an educator to join the Physical Education Department for the 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking an eager, creative, and flexible faculty member to work with students in grades K-12. This is an exempt, full time, 10 month position for the 2026-2027 school year with the potential for permanent placement.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

• Teach physical education across all three divisions: Lower, Middle and Upper Schools
• Implement a skill based curriculum that prompts an active and healthy lifestyle amongst students
• Co-teach Lower school classes focusing on areas including but not limited to foundational locomotive movements, fitness, sport specific skills, team concepts and small games
• Develop creative and innovative Middle School and Upper School classes with a focus on life long skills
• Design engaging and relevant student-centered lessons
• Collaborate with other faculty to infuse interdisciplinary strategies
• Participate actively in school life; assemblies, advisory, clubs, faculty meetings, professional development, and other community events
• Must instill an enthusiasm for movement and fitness in students
• Coach a minimum of two seasons of Middle or Upper School athletics
• Perform other school duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in physical education and health education
• 3+ years experience teaching physical in a K-12 setting
• Possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, the ability to be flexible, and a passion for working with children
• Varsity level coaching experience
• CPR and first aid certification
• Experience engaging with and adapting to diverse learners
• Experience designing and implementing developmentally-appropriate and varied activities

SALARY

I n compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer
