The Physical Education Teacher is a Gymnasium Teacher working in a small setting Transitional Classroom attending to Students with mental and Intellectual Disabilities while providing physical Education Instructions.

Having a Lifeguard Certification Is Preferred.

SALARY RATES:

• BA/BS: $60,116
• MA/MS: $66,403

SIGN-ON BONUS: $3,000 paid in two equal installments within a year.

Purpose: This position provides physical education instruction to students with disabilities, including assessment, daily instruction, and collaboration with educators and related service providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach physical education to K-12 students according to Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
2. Develop and adapt the physical education curriculum.
3. Assess students' motor skills and fitness levels.
4. Implement accommodations and modifications as per IEP.
5. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and the recreation department.
6. Plan and deliver lessons suitable for students' abilities.
7. Contribute to IEP meetings and documentation.
8. Supervise paraprofessionals and maintain equipment.
9. Participate in professional development and maintain certifications.
10. Manage students' behavior and assessments.
11. Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
12. Coordinate with the recreation department for community-based activities and Special Olympics events.
13. Complete necessary paperwork for events and programs.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Current Illinois Teaching Certificate, Bachelor's in Physical Education or related field, and Lifeguard Certification.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment: Ability to sit, stand, lift up to 50 pounds, perform CPR, and work in a noisy environment with exposure to infectious substances. Reasonable accommodations available.
