DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and implement physical education and health lessons in accordance with state and district curriculum standards.
- Develop lesson plans that engage students in activities promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and overall well‑being.
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Adapt instruction to accommodate students with diverse needs and abilities.
- Promote lifelong healthy habits and physical activity through engaging instruction.
- Classroom and Facility Management
- Create and maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and inventory of equipment and instructional materials.
- Supervise students in all physical education activities, ensuring their safety and well‑being.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the gym, outdoor spaces, and classrooms.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by the school and district policies.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
- Maintain state certification and participate in professional learning to stay current in health and physical education practices.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, school administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning and program effectiveness.
- Parent and Community Engagement
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and participation.
- Promote and organize events that encourage student and family involvement in physical activity and wellness initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community health organizations to support student wellness initiatives.
- Coaching Responsibilities
- Upon request, the Health/PE Teacher is expected to coach up to two sports teams. Additional coaching responsibilities may be assigned if desired and approved by the Candler County School System.
- Organize and conduct practices, ensuring proper skill development, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to student‑athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.
- Collaborate with other coaches, athletic directors, and school staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to athletics.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation, game results, and team progress.
- Actively participate in school athletic meetings, parent communication, and program development to foster a positive and competitive sports environment.
- Ensure that all coaching responsibilities align with academic expectations, supporting student‑athletes in maintaining eligibility and prioritizing their education.
- Uphold all district, state, and governing body regulations regarding athletic participation, safety protocols, and student conduct.
- Assist in organizing athletic events, managing equipment, and coordinating transportation as needed.
- Additional Duties
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Supervise students during non‑classroom activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Employment Expectations
- Employees are expected to fulfill all job responsibilities as outlined in this description.
- Failure to meet the requirements of the position, including coaching responsibilities, may result in a recommendation for non‑renewal of employment for the following school year.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten‑month contract – 190 days per year. Coaching responsibilities may require days outside the contract period, and if so, will be compensated though supplement pay.
EVALUATION: Annually by the Principal.
Qualification Required: State Issued Certificate
