Position Title

Physical Education Teacher (Elementary)

Compensation

Base: $64,500; Tested Subject: $2,000; Experience: $200 per year; Advanced Degree-Master's: $3,000; PhD: $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits: Health (Medical, Vision, Dental), Short Term Disability, AAE, & Pension

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Director, develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; promote understanding of the importance of exercise for physical and mental well‑being; motivate students toward physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Health & Physical Education.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade‑specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to health education.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, and faculty, etc.
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
    • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1.
    • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
    • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.

  • Requires the ability to work in noisy and crowded environments.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

The Physical Education Teacher Will

  • Develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports.
  • Develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; provide a safe and optimal learning environment; give appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities and modify instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Assist in coordinating extra‑curricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
  • Inspect equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.

Perform any other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification that may be assigned.

Experience

Prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and iLearn Schools Inc. board policies and procedures.

Reports to

School Director, Chief Academic Officer. Supervise: Instructional Coaches, Instructional Staff.
