Qualifications

Summary/Objective

Magellan International School, in Austin, Texas, is seeking a Physical Education (PE) Teacher for Preschool (PP3 & PP4) & Primary School (Kinder & 1st Grades). The teacher will support students' academic, physical, and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.

Essential Functions

• Designs, plans, and implements physical education lessons
• Plans and teaches lessons following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curriculum, differentiating for individual student needs
• Educates students in physical fitness, motor skills, sports rules, and healthy habits across indoor and outdoor settings
• Fosters teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence among students
• Maintains equipment and ensures a safe, clean environment for physical activities
• Organizes and supervises extracurricular sports and fitness programs
• Collaborates with other teachers and school staff to coordinate physical education efforts
• Adapts lessons for students with varying abilities and needs
• Maintains accurate records of student progress and assessment
• Assists in planning the annual Field Day and Sports Day across all school levels
• Coach a minimum of two sports during the course of the academic year
• Works collaboratively with the teaching assistant to deliver learning experiences
• Attends staff and faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the PYP Coordinator and Section Heads on curriculum planning and program effectiveness
• Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and technologies
• Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior
• Actively supervises students during carline, recess, breaks, and lunch
• Supports the organization of educational field trips to support the curriculum
• Communicates professionally with parents regarding student progress and establishes positive relationships with families

Other Duties

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or related field
• A minimum of two years of experience teaching and/or coaching young children
• Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing
• Experience and/or training in the IB PYP preferred
• Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and classroom management
• Experience integrating Information Technology (IT) into teaching

PE Teaching Skills

• Ability to teach diverse students with varied athletic interests and different physical abilities
• Understanding of physiology, nutrition and metabolism
• Experience with authentic assessment practices
• Demonstrate experience as an effective coach

Work Environment

This job operates in an indoor and outdoor classroom environment. Exposure to outdoor weather and high ambient noise levels. It requires prolonged standing, walking, running, and active demonstration of exercises across multiple classes with young children. It requires lifting and carrying athletic gear, mats, and equipment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

“Core” work hours:

• 7:45 am to 5:30 pm on Mondays
• 7:45 am to 3:45 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
• 7:45 am to 4:30pm on Wednesdays
• Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.
