Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional assistant to support a physical education program and reinforce instructional material. Responsibilities include helping the PE teacher, maintaining student behavior, and assisting with daily tasks and classroom organization.

Qualifications

Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Title I Assistants Only: 48 college credits or passing Paraprofessional Assessment, or an Associate's Degree or higher; some experience with children.

Responsibilities

Assist the physical education teacher in performing duties and specialized tasks as assigned.
Help establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
Create a learning-friendly environment appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students.
Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary.
Maintain individual records for each student.
Protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Encourage safety habits during activities.
Serve as locker room attendant.
Assist in maintenance and storage of equipment.
Set up equipment for class.
Implement policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
Maintain order in the classroom and monitor students on tasks.
Perform office tasks such as photocopying, filing, answering phones, as required.
Perform related work as required.
