Job summary

Three Oaks Elementary School in Virginia Beach is seeking a dedicated paraprofessional to support the physical education teacher in instructional activities and reinforce material through guided practice.

You will assist with classroom management, student safety, and equipment setup, while maintaining records and providing essential office support as needed. Passion for working with elementary students and promoting healthy, active participation is required.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of practices in physical education
• Ability to maintain confidential files and reports
• Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers
• Skill in using physical education equipment
• Ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents and students

Responsibilities

• Assist the PE teacher in performing duties and specialized tasks
• Assist in maintaining standards of student behavior
• Create a learning-conducive environment appropriate to students' maturity and interests
• Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students
• Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary
• Help maintain individual records for each student
• Protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Encourage safety habits in activities
• Serve as locker room attendant
• Assist in maintenance and storage of equipment
• Set up equipment for class
• Assist in implementing policies governing student life and conduct
• Maintain classroom order and monitor students on tasks
• Perform office tasks such as photocopying, filing, answering phones
• Perform related work as required
