Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a full-time paraprofessional to support the physical education teacher with instructional activities and to assist students in reinforcing material through targeted efforts and repetition. The role includes maintaining student behavior, setting up equipment, maintaining records, ensuring safety, and performing general office tasks to support classroom operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Title I Assistants must have 48 college credits or pass the Paraprofessional Assessment test, or have an Associate's Degree or higher; some experience with children.
• General knowledge of PE teaching practices and ability to maintain confidential files and reports.
• Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill with PE equipment; operate standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the PE teacher and undertake specialized tasks.
• Maintain standards of student behavior.
• Create a learning-conducive environment and support mature student interests.
• Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students.
• Escort and assist students as necessary.
• Maintain individual student records.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities; promote safety in activities.
• Set up equipment for class; implement school policies and rules.
• Maintain order in the classroom and monitor students on tasks.
• Perform office tasks such as photocopying, filing, and phone duties.
