Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a senior photonics engineer to design, build, and verify advanced photonics tools used in scientific and industrial applications. The role spans R&D, product management, and transfer to production at our Newton, NJ site.

You will lead experiments, specify testing, and coordinate between engineering groups while supporting manufacturing, marketing, and service teams. A strong electronics and laser background is essential for success.

Qualifications

6+ years designing and building integrated photonic systems.
MS or PhD in Physics/Optics/Photonic/ Electrical Eng; 2+ years post-degree.
BS + 8+ years can substitute for MS.

Responsibilities

Designing, building, and testing photonics tools for scientific and industrial applications.
Designing experiments to qualify proof-of-concept technologies.
Coordinating between engineering disciplines to accomplish product design.
Manage project timeline and costs.
Specify and perform testing to characterize catalog or system products.
Create specifications for components and test procedures in development and release to production.
Manage collaboration with software group to maximize functionality.
Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Marketing and Service.
Assist and/or troubleshoot production when problems arise.
Data entry in the Thorlabs ERP system.
