Job summary

EMode Photonix LLC. is hiring for senior and mid-level Photonics Software Engineers to develop the numerical core of our photonics simulation software. You will turn electromagnetic formulations into fast, well-tested, maintainable code in a shared codebase, collaborating with the lead software engineer and founder.

Strong physics background and production software experience are valued. All positions are on site in Boulder, Colorado, with relocation assistance.

Qualifications

Strong grounding in electromagnetics and waveguide optics (Maxwell’s equations, modes, dispersion, coupling).
Applied linear algebra, eigenvalue problems, matrix decompositions, iterative solvers.
Fluent in Python; experience with version control and testing; production software experience preferred at senior level.

Responsibilities

Implement and extend eigenmode expansion, mode solving, and nonlinear propagation methods.
Derive new numerical methods and validate against analytical limits, published measurements, and existing methods.
Improve solver performance via profiling, vectorization, sparse/dense linear algebra, and convergence enhancements.
Design new physics features from backend to user-facing API.
Extend validation suite with regression tests, benchmarks, and convergence studies.
Reproduce and diagnose modeling discrepancies reported by users and fix them.
Write documentation, examples, and tutorial models for the features shipped.
