Job summary

Lumina Corp in Cambridge, MA is building a visible-light PIC platform and seeks a PhD-level Photonics Fabrication and Test Engineer to turn device concepts into repeatable, high-yield fabrication flows. This hands-on role covers process development, integration, metrology, and yield, collaborating with design and test to close the loop quickly and improve manufacturability.

Qualifications

• PhD required in Physics, Engineering, or equivalent.
• 2+ years hands-on semiconductor/photonics fabrication experience.
• Expert in EBL, ICP-RIE, PECVD, Thermal Evap, SEM.
• Experience with measurement stages, optical and electrical probe alignment, data management.
• Strong fundamentals in process engineering: process control, recipe development, documentation discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex process issues end-to-end.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, flexible environment with high ownership.

Responsibilities

• Develop, own, and improve end-to-end photonics process flows (process integration, recipe development, yield improvement).
• Run and refine core cleanroom steps (lithography, etch, deposition, lift-off, cleaning, anneals).
• Establish robust process windows, controls, and documentation.
• Drive metrology + feedback loops to correlate process to device performance.
• Collaborate across fabrication, design, and characterization to improve performance, repeatability, and manufacturability.
• Run post-fabrication test and characterisation flows to measure design performance.
