Job summary

Luna Innovations, based in Chino, CA, seeks a Firmware Engineer II (Senior level possible) to write embedded firmware for precision optical instrumentation. You will collaborate with hardware, optical, and software teams to bring boards up and deliver reliable products.

You will design firmware for real-time control, data acquisition, and host communication, working in a fast-paced team environment. The role offers on-site work in Chino with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or closely related field.
• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience, preferably for instruments or test equipment.
• Proficiency in embedded C/C++ programming.
• Experience with Git and version control.
• Experience with microcontroller/ARM-based systems, RTOS, or bare-metal firmware.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and hardware datasheets.
• Hands-on PCB bring-up and hardware debugging with lab equipment.
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded systems (bare-metal and RTOS).
• Integrate firmware with hardware interfaces and host software.
• Develop real-time firmware for precise timing and data streaming.
• Bring up new boards and troubleshoot firmware/hardware issues.
• Collaborate with hardware, optical, and software engineers on product readiness.
• Document firmware requirements, design, tests, and release procedures.
