Job summary

Amentum is seeking a hands-on technician to support the Photonics Technology Branch in Washington, DC. You will fabricate prototypes, assemble components, and perform light machining while coordinating with senior staff on experiments involving photonic integrated circuits.

The role requires soldering of PCB/wire harnesses, familiarity with fiber optics, and the ability to operate benchtop test equipment. A high school diploma and 1–3 years of related experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in PCB/wire harness soldering and workshop tools.
• Familiarity with fiber optics and basic optical test equipment.
• Machining experience is desirable.
• On-the-job training provided for photonic circuits handling.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate prototypes and sub-assemblies including mechanical assembly and wiring.
• Perform light drilling, tapping, and basic machining tasks.
• Prepare optical fibers, perform splicing, and fiber spooling.
• Under supervision, conduct routine tests on photonic integrated circuits and log data.
