Job summary

Keysight Technologies Inc. is seeking a PhD candidate in photonics to design and optimize photonic devices and systems in Santa Clara, CA. You will develop software frameworks for design, simulate across tools, and prototype agented workflows to streamline multi-step photonic simulations.

You will collaborate with photonics experts and software teams, integrate tools via APIs, and contribute to production-quality workflows and algorithms for design-space exploration and optimization.

Qualifications

• PhD candidacy in a photonics/optics related field.
• Strong foundation in electromagnetics, wave optics, PICs, and computational photonics.
• Hands-on experience with photonics design tools (RSoft, Lumerical, COMSOL).
• Advanced programming skills in C++/Rust and Python.
• Experience building research-grade or production-quality software tools.
• Interest in automation, workflow orchestration and engineering productivity.
• Familiarity with agent-based or multi-step automation frameworks.
• API-level integration with photonics simulation tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and analyze photonic devices and systems using RSoft and related tools
• Develop software and automation frameworks for photonic design and simulation
• Prototype agentic or semi-autonomous workflows for multi-step simulations
• Integrate RSoft, CODE V, and LightTools via APIs and workflow automation
• Create cross-product workflows linking photonics, optics, and illumination analyses
• Support photonic device characterization and design optimization across simulators
• Develop and validate numerical optimization algorithms
• Explore AI-assisted design iteration and workflow coordination
• Document workflows and deliver reusable software tools
