K2 Space seeks a Photonic IC Design Engineer to own the photonic design flow from requirement to fabrication-ready designs. You will develop inverse design, AI-guided tools, and calibration models, collaborating with test teams to ensure measured performance matches simulations.

This founding photonics role drives the toolchain and libraries used across the team. You will work on device blocks for PICs, tuning and characterization, and contribute to a robust, scalable design workflow across

Qualifications

• PhD or MS in electrical engineering, optics, physics, computer science, or a related field.
• Built inverse design or other computational design tools that produced fabricated, measured devices on commercial integrated photonics foundry platforms.
• Strong software engineering: Python, autodiff frameworks, version control, and maintainable shared code.
• Electromagnetic simulation (FDTD, FEM, or RCWA) and hands-on lab characterization correlated to simulation.

Responsabilités

• Own the photonic design automation flow: parametric layout, simulation orchestration, design-space exploration, and automated DRC/LVS and sign-off across multiple foundry platforms.
• Build and maintain inverse design with lithography models and robustness to process variation as a core engine of the flow.
• Bring agentic and AI-guided tools into the design loop for exploration, layout generation, optimization, and data analysis.
• Own device and circuit blocks on product PICs from specification through tapeout and characterization.
• Partner with test and automation teams on characterization, design-for-test, and data pipelines.
• Characterize devices in lab and at automated test stations, feed data back into models and calibration.
• Maintain pcells and compact models with regression tests to protect flow against changes.
• Extend models into calibration and control for tunable PICs, deriving control algorithms from the same models.
• Develop behavioral and physical models of photonic circuits, links, lasers, and gain media; support co-design with electronics teams.
• Make the flow usable through documentation, reviews, and mentoring.
