Job description

The Dallas Mavericks are looking for an experienced Photographer to capture, edit, and organize high-quality images that bring the organization to life, both on the court and off. The ideal candidate is a natural storyteller with a thorough understanding of all aspects of photography, and this role offers broad opportunity to shoot and edit everything from game night and practices to marketing, community, and behind-the-scenes content.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Captures high-quality images across the organization, including on-court moments such as games and practices and off-court content such as marketing shoots, community events, and behind-the-scenes coverage.
  • Prepares for in-studio and on-location shoots by determining lighting and other requirements.
  • Follows all procedures for the care and use of photography equipment.
  • Color-corrects digital photographs and digital art files to closely match real-life tones.
  • Produces a high volume of digital images while maintaining exceptional quality.
  • Completes edits, clones, retouches, and other adjustments on digital images.
  • Works closely with supervisors and creative leads to ensure required photographic aesthetics are delivered.
  • Ensures images are labeled, organized, stored, and archived appropriately upon completion of editing.
  • Maintains a consistent and organized digital workflow.
  • Identifies and communicates photography equipment maintenance needs.
  • Completes all assignments on time and according to direction.
  • Maintains current knowledge of design and technology trends; learns new techniques, tools, and technology as required.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly workstation and set spaces.
  • Adapts to additional duties and tasks as needed, contributing to team efforts with a positive attitude.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in photography or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional photography experience.
  • Ability to take professional-quality photographs with a strong eye for visual composition.
  • Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, lighting, and specialized photography software.
  • Solid understanding of still photography, lighting techniques, and the principles of commercial and documentary photography.
  • Working knowledge of production techniques including separation, layering, and color management.
  • Advanced-level Adobe Photoshop skills; design and illustration skills are a plus; basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Bridge helpful.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time-management, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accept and apply critique and feedback; self-starter able to work under minimal supervision, alone or as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks without sacrificing quality.
  • Willingness to travel and to maintain schedule flexibility, including work in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
