AFP is seeking a skilled photo editor in Los Angeles. The role involves overseeing photo production, collaborating with a network of photographers, and ensuring high-quality imagery for diverse stories in North America. Flexibility in hours is essential, as late shifts and weekend work may be required.
THE JOB
AFP is seeking a skilled photo editor with a keen eye for compelling visuals and a strong journalistic background to join our dynamic team in Los Angeles. You will play a pivotal role on overseeing the photo production for the US, Canada, and the Caribbean, ensuring that our imagery captures the essence of theregion’s diverse stories, news, sports and entertainment events taking place across the North American region.
As part of our team, you will collaborate with over 20 staff photographers and editors, as well as a network of talented freelancers across the region. You will be responsible for selecting, editing, captioning, and validating photos to AFP clients worldwide.
You are also expected to monitor the news, features and sport events that could be of interest to AFP and follow up with the photographers to guarantee production of the highest quality. Entertainment and red-carpet events are an important part of our coverage in LA.
Working under the authority of the North America Photo Director, his management team and the Los Angeles Bureau Chief, the photo editor must collaborate and work closely with the video, text, and graphics departments.
You need to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
You should have a keen eye for the visual and multimedia aspects of coverage and closely coordinate with the text, video, and graphics departments.
You should have excellent knowledge of the issues involved in handling user-generated content and AFP’s guidelines concerning the use of UGC.
You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency's guidelines on social media activity. As a general rule, you will have to ensure the reliability of news covered and commit to respecting AFP's ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and the AFP Stylebook.
The job requires flexibility in terms of hours. You will be expected to work regular late shifts and weekends.
