Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a Writer/Editor for the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Health Agency (DHA) Military Health System (MHS) Strategic Communications Division. This individual will serve within the DHA Communications Division News Center, write and edit content, and support a formal editorial planning and management process.

Responsibilities

1. Produce and edit articles on deadline and short turnarounds in support of MHS missions.
2. Collaborate with the Communications planning team to inform focus areas of articles, identify subject matter experts, and coordinate outreach to DHA staff offices or MHS component organizations.
3. Ensure content and messaging align with strategies and objectives established by communications/public affairs guidance, plans, directives, and the DHA style guide.
4. Work closely with government teams to ensure complete packages are available for posting on health.mil and tricare.mil websites.
5. Maintain news and event calendars for long-range planning and allocation of communication assets, including major events across the MHS Enterprise.
6. Review content from military treatment facilities and Market communication offices for elevation to enterprise websites.
7. Update DVIDS and the Production Schedule with completed and planned articles.

Minimum Qualifications

• BS degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in journalism.
• Experience managing multiple actions to facilitate synchronization across various production teams.
• Ability to obtain and maintain public trust; #qinetiqclearedjob
• Understanding of DoD and U.S. military operations.
• Proficiency in various communication channels used to disseminate content to internal and external audiences within the DoD.
• Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
• Willingness to cover in-person events at DHHQ, Pentagon, and other facilities as required.
• Ability to travel 2-3 times per year.
• Ability to write in AP style.
• Remote position; candidate must reside within commuting distance to the Washington Capital Region.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specific journalism experience related to article writing.
