Job summary

PIH Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to accurately collect, label, process and deliver patient specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner. The role requires CA DHS Phlebotomy Technician licensure and may require a LA City Fire Card within 6 months.

Responsibilities include LIS entry, specimen transport coordination, and pre-analytic processing such as centrifugation. Occupational requirements include hospital lab experience and willingness to work variable shifts.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy Technician I or II Licensure from CA DHS.
• LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment.
• 1-year experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital laboratory environment (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Collect, label, process and deliver patient specimens to the laboratory accurately and timely.
• Retrieve specimens from transport systems and verify receipt in LIS.
• Perform pre-analytic steps including centrifugation and use of automated track system.
• Enter orders for laboratory tests into LIS and route samples to referral laboratories as needed.

Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate and timely (as defined by Quality Improvement Indicators) collection, labeling, processing and delivery of patient specimens to the laboratory. Processing functions include timely retrieval of specimens from transport systems, verification of sample receipt in LIS, centrifugation and other pre-analytic steps, including use of automated track system. Order entry of laboratory tests into LIS. Responsible for processing of samples to a referral laboratory.

Required Skills

Required Experience

• Phlebotomy Technician I or II Licensure from CA DHS (After 1/1/07)
• LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only)

Preferred

• 1-year experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital laboratory environment
