Job summary

PIH Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect and process patient specimens with accuracy and timeliness in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include labeling, processing, and delivering specimens, with use of LIS and pre-analytic steps, as well as order entry into LIS.

The ideal candidate will hold CA DHS Phlebotomy Licensure (I or II) and possess familiarity with LIS, with a focus on safe, efficient specimen handling and patient care.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication required.
• Familiar with LIS and specimen handling procedures.
• Eligible for CA phlebotomy licensure (I or II) as of 1/1/2007 or later.

Responsibilities

• Collect, label and deliver patient specimens to the laboratory.
• Process specimens including pre-analytic steps and track system handling.
• Enter orders into LIS and forward processed samples to referral laboratories.

Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate and timely (as defined by Quality Improvement Indicators) collection, labeling, processing and delivery of patient specimens to the laboratory. Processing functions include timely retrieval of specimens from transport systems, verification of sample receipt in LIS, centrifugation and other pre-analytic steps, including use of automated track system. Order entry of laboratory tests into LIS. Responsible for processing of samples to a referral laboratory.

• Phlebotomy Technician I or II Licensure from CA DHS (After 1/1/07)
• LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only)

Preferred

• 1-year experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital laboratory environment
