Job summary

A healthcare organization in Lawndale, NC is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract position with potential for permanent placement. You will perform blood draws, label and process specimens, and ensure accuracy throughout testing workflows.

The role is on-site, full-time, with focus on patient specimen collection, OSHA compliance, and timely results delivery. Requires state phlebotomy certification and at least 6 months of venipuncture experience.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Minimum 1 year of experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to respond to inquiries
• Assist with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations
