Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to join a Magnet Hospital team. You will draw blood, label specimens, and coordinate with the processing area to support patient care.

As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will use skills learned in a phlebotomy program, work days with on-call duties, and collaborate with a dedicated medical laboratory team at Hillcrest Hospital.

Qualifications

• Technical proficiency with standard phlebotomy procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures, venipuncture, and maintain log sheets.
• Verify order requests and identify information prior to drawing blood or collecting specimens.
• Label all specimens and deliver to the appropriate processing area.
• Perform specimen processing and tasks including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.
• Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.

As Phlebotomy Technician, you are an integral member of the Medical Laboratory Team. Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. A caregiver in this position works days + on-call, 4:00am-12:30pm. Rotating weekends. Every other holiday.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.

• Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
• Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning , centrifugation and packaging.
• Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Formal Phlebotomy Certification
• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship
• One year of Phlebotomy experience

Physical Requirements

• Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
• Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
