Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician, Float, to join the Reference Lab Sales-Diagnostics Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. You will collect blood specimens from patients of all ages, ensuring safe and compassionate care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include performing venipuncture, labeling and routing specimens, and supporting processing operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of current phlebotomy experience.
• Current, valid driver’s license.
• BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross (upon hire or within 6 months).
• Graduation certificate from accredited phlebotomy program (preferred).
• Phlebotomy certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures and venipuncture.
• Verify orders and identify information prior to drawing blood.
• Label specimens and deliver to processing area.
• Perform specimen processing and related tasks (accessioning, centrifugation, packaging).
• Travel to various locations within the enterprise.
• Complete administrative paperwork and time/mileage reports.
• Follow laboratory safety procedures.

Phlebotomy Technicians are an essential part of the healthcare team, playing a vital role in delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate patient care. A caregiver in this position worksfromdays,8:00am—5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresandmaintainappropriate logsheets.

• Verify order requests andidentifyinformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.

• Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.

• Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.

• Pick up and deliver blood, other sampletypesand lab supplies.

• Travel to various locations within the enterprise.

• Complete andsubmitappropriate administrativepaperwork and log sheets, such as time and mileage reports.

• Be flexible to work at assigned locations and hours thatare in need ofcoverage.Location may vary daily and bedeterminedwith minimal notice.

• Follow proper laboratory safety procedures.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED

• One year ofcurrentphlebotomy experience

• Experienced and proficient in blood collection from all patient populations

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross(upon hire or within six months of employment)

• Current, valid driver’s license

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduation certificate from a formal accredited phlebotomy program

• Phlebotomy certification

• Two years of current phlebotomy experience

• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship

Physical Requirements:

• Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
• Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
