US Got People (USGP) is searching for a dedicated professional to work as PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN within the DONOR CENTER at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, VA.

Education Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited donor Phlebotomy program (accredited by The Joint Commission)
- Certification: BLS Certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross, in addition to basic life support
- Experience: Minimum of 12 months experience as a phlebotomist within the past 36 months
- Registration: Registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Job duties may include but are not limited to:
- Performing a full range of phlebotomy duties including venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel-stick procedures using proper techniques; setting up and completing special test-related procedures; ensuring proper specimen collection, processing, and distribution.
- Conducting patient in-processing, reviewing paperwork, providing guidance, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Assembling equipment such as tourniquets, needles, blood collection devices, gauze, and alcohol pads according to test requirements.
- Verifying patient identity, conducting interviews, taking vital signs, and drawing blood samples for screening donors.
- Providing technical oversight and training to ensure safe and sterile invasive procedures, including training newly arrived personnel and volunteers.
- Handling administrative and clerical procedures, documenting samples, maintaining supplies, and cleanliness of the work area.
- Providing instructions for patient specimen collection and special laboratory requirements.
- Performing waived testing as defined by CLIA, including screening tests and FDA-approved home use tests.
- Complying with military and healthcare regulations, standards from AABB, CAP, CLIP, and JCAHO.
- Managing registration duties for blood drives, including donor interviews, eligibility assessments, and data entry.
- Assessing donor health parameters, performing phlebotomy, recognizing emergencies, and managing donor reactions.
- Preparing blood units for processing, setting up and tearing down mobile collection sites, and performing quality control and component processing.
