Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood and blood culture specimens, as well as non-blood samples such as urine, sputum, semen, and throat swabs. You will ensure proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and chain of custody where applicable.

Responsibilities include performing venipunctures and skin punctures efficiently, maintaining accuracy, and communicating effectively with patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).
• Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.

Responsibilities

• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible for patient groups from neonates to geriatrics.
• Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, phone system, etc.).
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• If applicable, collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.
