Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to join Support Services. You will triage samples, perform phlebotomy on in- and outpatients, operate lab equipment, and support specimen transport. Training new staff and maintaining documentation are also responsibilities.

Required California CPT certificate and a High School diploma or GED, with 2 years of phlebotomy experience or 1 year inpatient hospital phlebotomy experience. Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• California CPT certificate required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years phlebotomy experience or one year inpatient hospital phlebotomy experience.
• Knowledge of clinical lab test names and abbreviations.
• Medical terminology knowledge.
• Infection control procedures.
• Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
• Ability to work cooperatively with Med Center staff.
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
• English literacy to understand protocols and write patient data.

Responsibilities

• Triage lab samples and requests after verification of information.
• Centrifuge, measure and aliquot or preserve as needed.
• Enter and verify patient/test info in the computer.
• Generate labels for specimens and deliver to appropriate areas.
• Prepare samples for transport to referral labs or storage.
• Prepare written reports of phlebotomy draws and results.
• Maintain PM charts and supply documentation.
• Support transport of specimens and blood products.
• Perform phlebotomy on in- and outpatients.
• Operate lab equipment and assist in training new staff.
• Perform inventory and rotate bench assignments as needed.
• Transport specimens and blood products.
• Clean and prepare glassware and supplies.
