Job summary

Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, AL, part of Prime Healthcare, seeks a Phlebotomy Technician I (Day Shift). Responsibilities include drawing blood, labeling specimens, and transporting samples to the lab while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

The role requires a HS diploma, BLS within 45 days of hire, and 2+ years of clinical lab experience preferred; weekends/holidays on a rotating schedule. Full-time hours from 5:00am to 5:30pm.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure comfort and safety.
• Collect blood via venipuncture or capillary puncture with proper identification and labeling of specimens.
• Organize, transport, and store specimens to the laboratory for testing.
• Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain specimen integrity and accurate results.
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies; ensure proper sanitation and operation.
• Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision.

Hours: 5:00am - 5:30pm. Must be able to work every other weekend and holiday.

We are seeking an Phlebotomy Technician I (Day Shift), also referred to as a Phlebotomy Tech at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, AL. The Phlebotomy Technician I will be responsible for drawing blood and handling specimens, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and transport to the lab. They also maintain equipment, adhere to quality and safety protocols, record patient data, and collaborate with other departments to ensure effective patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process
• responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens
• organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored
• adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results
• maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized
• perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision
