Job summary

Gadsden Regional Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to support accurate laboratory testing through proper specimen collection. You will ensure patient identification, maintain specimen integrity, and interact professionally with patients and staff.

The role requires handling venipuncture and capillary draws, documenting accurately, and adhering to safety and infection control standards during nightly shifts.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
• Knowledge of safety guidelines, sanitation and infection control protocols.
• Ability to perform blood collection techniques across all age groups.
• Understanding of patient identification, specimen handling, and lab testing requirements.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) per policies.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory, maintaining sample integrity.
• Explains procedures to patients, providing reassurance and addressing concerns.
• Maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety standards.
• Documents patient and specimen information in the laboratory system.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and meets clinical needs.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and resolve issues.
• Adheres to laboratory and hospital safety requirements and accreditation standards.
