Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Medical Technician in Ann Arbor, MI to perform phlebotomy and bone marrow assistance in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Services.

The role covers Ann Arbor Medical Center with rotating duties to affiliated CBOCs such as Canton as needed. Responsibilities include drawing blood, labeling specimens, handling urine specimens, preparing tests and reporting results, maintaining supplies, and assisting with specialty tests.

Qualifications

• Experience performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients.
• Bachelor's degree or 60 semester hours in relevant subjects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must meet English language proficiency requirements.

Responsibilities

• Draws blood via venipuncture for requested laboratory tests.
• Properly labels specimens and ensures patient identification during collection.
• Assists with bone marrow biopsy procedures.
• Maintains stocks and supplies for phlebotomy and specimen procurement.
• Trains new employees as assigned by supervisor.
• Rotates to Ann Arbor and Canton sites as needed.
