Job summary

DHR Health in Edinburg, TX is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood samples and coordinate with laboratory personnel to support accurate patient diagnoses. The role requires completion of a phlebotomy training program and nationally certified phlebotomy technician certification.

The candidate must have at least two years of experience, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and the ability to work some evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Phlebotomy Training program required.
• Completion of nationally recognized certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required.
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle insurance required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Some evening or weekend work will be required.
• Bilingual - English/Spanish.
• Minimum two years experience required.
• Knowledge of State, Federal, TJC, and CLIA regulations.
• Requires excellent interpersonal skills with families in crisis.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Able to perform venous, arterial, capillary draws on adult and pediatric/neonatal patients as per procedure and without supervision.
• Identifies patients and labels all tubes, as per policy, without mislabeling.
• Draws the correct amount and in the correct tubes/preserves specimens as needed to minimize redraws.
• Collect specimens according to established procedures; delivers blood to the lab in a timely manner.
• Research test/client information and confirm and verify all orders using lab systems and tools.
• Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
• Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following policies.
• Selects appropriate type of needle based on patient’s needs and age.
• Selects appropriate site; rarely uses superficial veins.
• Wears gloves and follows isolation procedures.
• Uses correct order of draw and releases tourniquet after 1 minute.
• Minimizes rejection of specimens due to hemolysis, clotting, or other issues.
• Attends all mandatory in-services.
• Dresses professionally and maintains a high standard of service.
• Provide high quality customer service and listen to customers to understand needs and deliver messages with courtesy.
• Maintain confidentiality and a secure, professional environment.
• Perform non-patient facing duties such as inventory, stocking, sanitizing, and filing; answering phones and emails.
• Maintain phlebotomy logs and comply with policies.
• Travel to sites as required and perform site visits.
• Oversee facility operations and supervise staff as needed.
