Job summary

UPMC Logan Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomy Supervisor for a full-time day-shift role, Monday through Friday. The supervisor will oversee three outpatient phlebotomy teams and will travel regularly to BMA Express Lab and Ebensburg Medical Center.

Ideal candidates have prior leadership experience, strong communication and customer service skills, and familiarity with LIS and Microsoft Office. Phlebotomy licensure or ASCP credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree in laboratory sciences preferred.
• Three years phlebotomy experience required.
• Hospital phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Medical terminology experience required.
• Customer service oriented.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT/ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) preferred.
• Act 31/33/34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a schedule to provide coverage to meet patient care needs.
• Procures specimens by venipuncture, heelstick and fingerstick following procedures and proper patient identification.
• May collect samples other than blood as required.
• Specimen collection may be performed at off-site locations.
• Trains and orients new employees and students.
• Performs staff performance evaluations and administers corrective action as required.
• Maintains and updates specimen procurement policies and procedures.
• Promotes patient safety.
• Interacts with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; responds to inquiries.
• Develops quality initiatives to improve process and provide customer satisfaction.
• Assists in determining level of customer satisfaction through various metrics.
• Accurately registers patient demographic information and laboratory test orders.
• Informs staff and pathologists of unusual incidents.
• Instructs patients on collection procedures for specimens.
• Adheres to policies in procedures, quality control, safety and compliance.
