Job summary

HCA HealthONE’s The Medical Center of Aurora is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to optimize specimen procurement, receipt and processing in a hospital lab setting. You will collect blood specimens, greet patients, answer phones, and interface with departments and labs under supervision.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and a Certified Phlebotomy program, plus preferred phlebotomy and BLS certifications and hospital lab experience. No travel is required.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification preferred; BLS certification preferred.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora by optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant has primary responsibility for the efficient organization and effectiveness of the specimen procurement, receipt and processing area.

The employee will provide services addressing age-related techniques in specimen collection and care focusing on neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. This involves greeting patients within The Medical Center of Aurora, answering the telephone, answering questions regarding specimen collection and time elements, interfacing between other hospitals, hospital departments, physicians, medical offices and reference laboratories, obtaining blood specimens, providing quality service, and performing general laboratory duties. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements

• Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy Certification preferred, BLS Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a Certified Phlebotomy program preferred.
• Experience: Experience in a hospital laboratory is desired, but not necessary.
• Special Qualifications: The Laboratory Assistant must have good customer service and communication skills. Basic computer skills are needed.
• No Travel Required
