Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a dedicated phlebotomy technician to perform routine and specialized venipuncture for patients of all ages, following established protocols and safety practices. You will enter patient data, prepare specimens, operate laboratory equipment, maintain supplies, and participate in continuing education and quality assurance activities.

This on-site role requires a high school diploma and 0–6 months experience; certificate of phlebotomy preferred;

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 0–6 months of laboratory or phlebotomy experience preferred or required depending on position.
• Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred; licensure requirements may vary by position.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician, while practicing universal precautions.
• Accurately data enter patient demographic information and assays into computer applications and maintain lab documents.
• Process and handle specimens in accordance with MUSCP/MUSCP-PC or reference laboratory guidelines; document remedial actions and communicate appropriately.
• Maintain medical supplies in accordance with cost-effective parameters to perform job tasks.
• Decontaminate assigned areas and document the information.
• Attend in-services, meetings, and participate in committees and continuing education as requested.
