Job summary

Nantucket Cottage Hospital seeks a Lab Assistant to draw all types of blood specimens from patients of all ages and to perform related clerical tasks. The role includes specimen handling, processing, and on-call duties within the laboratory setting.

The position requires accurate documentation, ability to communicate with physicians and staff, and adherence to safety and LIS procedures. On-site work at 57 Prospect Street with EKGs and Holter monitoring experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior phlebotomy experience up to 6 months preferred; EKGs and Holter monitoring experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Draw blood specimens from adults, children, and infants according to procedures.
• Handle and process specimens; maintain safe working area and proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste.
• Coordinate with Laboratory Manager and staff; document results and file reports.
• Answer phones, relay patient information, and assist with clerical tasks as needed.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, clients, and team members; participate in meetings and training.
