Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy training, experience, and/or certification preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
• Good communication and organization skills required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license; DMV driving report acceptable to the hospital’s liability carrier.

Responsibilities

• Utilize venipuncture and skin puncture techniques to collect patient blood samples.
• Instruct patients and others in proper collection of samples for laboratory testing.
• Assist laboratory staff in processing specimens and entering collection data in the LIS.
• May perform waived testing procedures as defined by CLIA.
• May perform specific moderate complexity testing after training as noted by CLIA.
• Perform general secretarial duties and computer applications, patient registration and order entry in the LIS.
• Manage patient and visitor reception and telephone system.
