Job summary

Riverside Health System in Smithfield, Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Support Tech I to work under supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager/Director. This role performs routine and special laboratory specimen collections, handling and distribution per SOPs, and explains procedures to patients and staff.

Travel to off-site locations may be required to collect specimens and transport them back to the lab.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or preferred.
• Program graduate in Phlebotomy or lab specimen training preferred.
• Direct patient care or phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates accurate specimen collection and handling as per orders and labeling instructions.
• Maintains a safe environment by following policies and safety guidelines and proper patient identification.
• Collaborates with providers and care team to meet patient needs.
• Adheres to QA/QI processes and accreditation standards; participates in quality audits and training.
• Supports intradepartmental communication and readiness for inspections and standards.
