Job summary

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy certification.
• Preferred: ASCP certification.
• One year experience in specimen processing.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, and heel sticks per protocol.
• Identifies patients and labels specimens at the bedside.
• Prioritizes STAT draws and ensures timely transport of specimens.
• Prepares specimens for testing and coordinates with lab staff and reference labs.
• Performs waived testing and assists with analyzer maintenance.
• Accurately enters data into laboratory information systems.
• Organizes workload to complete assigned draws and tasks on schedule.
• Assists co-workers and communicates with nursing units regarding specimen status.
• Maintains laboratory supplies, assists with inventory, and stocks phlebotomy materials.
• Follows laboratory policies, safety and infection control measures.
• Follows exposure control plans for bloodborne/airborne pathogens.
• Promotes teamwork and supports hospital mission and policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
