Job summary

OSF HealthCare is hiring a Phlebotomy Instructor to develop and continually improve a comprehensive training program for phlebotomy and related procedures. The role includes creating instructional material and assessments to prepare staff for clinical phlebotomy, specimen collection, and EKG duties.

The instructor will ensure resources meet standards, mentor learners, and collaborate with leadership to align training with patient care goals and organizational performance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program.
• 2 years' phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) certification within 1 year of hire.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Strong interpersonal and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and continually improve a comprehensive phlebotomy training program with materials, competencies, and resources.
• Create instructional and assessment materials for hands-on and classroom learning.
• Train and evaluate team members in clinical phlebotomy, specimen collection, and EKG procedures as needed.
• Ensure learning resources are up-to-date and compliant with relevant standards.
• Collaborate with leadership to align training with patient care goals.

Expected pay for this position is $18.98 - $22.34/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for developing and continually improving a comprehensive training program, including instructional and assessment materials, competencies, procedures, and learning resources in both manual and electronic formats. The training program will cover clinical phlebotomy techniques and classroom education to prepare new and existing team members for clinical phlebotomy, other lab specimen collections, and EKG procedures as necessary.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program

Experience:

• Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program 2 years' experience as a phlebotomist.

Licensure/ Certification:

• Must obtain Phlebotomy Technician (ASCP) certification within one year of hire.
• Must obtain BLS Certification from the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Associates degree or certification in any of the following or other closely related disciplines with one year of phlebotomy experience may also be considered: EKG Technician, MOA, CMA, PCT/PCL, CNA, EMT, healthcare studies, nursing, or ASCP certification with other relevant experience.
