Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC seeks a phlebotomy specialist to identify patients and obtain specimens using venous or capillary methods, ensuring proper labeling and transport within stated turnaround times.

Responsibilities include guiding non-certified staff on specimen acceptability, adhering to safety policies, and assisting with onboarding. The role may cover duties in the absence of the Phlebotomy coordinator and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• PBT - American Society For Clinical Pathology certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction and guidance for questions or problems referred by a non-certified phlebotomist concerning specimen acceptability or difficult draws.
• Perform accurate collection and receipt of specimens per laboratory protocol and procedures.
• Follow established safety policies and universal precautions; understand exposure, bloodborne and airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, and chain of custody procedures.
• Assist with orientation of laboratory procedures for students and/or new staff; cover duties as needed in the absence of the Phlebotomy Technical Specialist/Phlebotomy Coordinator.
