Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Lab Assistant to accurately collect, prepare and process a variety of patient specimens for diagnostic testing. The role requires attention to detail, a commitment to continuous learning, and strong collaboration within the lab team.

You will handle specimen intake, ensure correct patient identification, and assist with workflow across departments. Training in phlebotomy and CPR is required, with preferred lab-related certificates.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Graduate General Studies or High School GED General Studies
• Required: Basic Life Support (through AHA) - CPR, within 90 days
• Required: Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist in WA, within 6 months
• Preferred: Laboratory/Phlebotomy related certificates or programs

Responsibilities

• Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
• Practices kindness and courtesy with patients and co-workers; communicates within the department and with other hospital departments.
• Maintains department workflow; assists team to sustain workflow and foster teamwork and collaboration.
• Processes specimens into the lab and prepares them for testing; moves samples to the appropriate departments.
• Handles lab send-out testing; organizes packing lists and packaging for external testing per procedures.
• Uses good judgment in problem solving and seeks help when needed.
