Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking an entry-level Phlebotomy Apprentice. This work-and-learn role combines didactic instruction with supervised clinical training focused on phlebotomy and specimen collection.

The position pays $20.00 per hour, with competency assessments throughout the program and preparation to sit for a national phlebotomy board exam upon completion. Onsite at 75 Francis Street with a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Experience in Healthcare 0–1 year preferred.
• Experience in lieu of a degree is not accepted (No).

Responsibilities

• Complete all training components including didactic instruction, labs, supervised hours, and competency assessments.
• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection under supervision.
• Apply patient identification and labeling procedures under oversight.
• Recognize and respond to adverse patient reactions per protocol.
• Develop patient communication and manage anxiety during procedures.
• Handle sharps and biohazardous materials per safety rules and training.
• Use laboratory information systems and HIPAA training.
• Perform additional specimen collection procedures after competency sign-off.
• Prepare for the national phlebotomy board examination upon program completion.
