Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures and venipuncture.
• Verify orders and patient information prior to drawing blood.
• Label specimens and deliver to processing area.
• Perform specimen processing and related lab tasks (accessioning, centrifugation, packaging).
• Pickup and delivery of blood, samples, and lab supplies; float to multiple locations.

AsPhlebotomyTechnician, you are an integral member of the Medical Laboratory Team. Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. APRNcaregiver in this positionworksday/evening rotation| 4:00pm—8:00pm or 12:00pm—4:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresandmaintainappropriate logsheets.

• Verify order requests andidentifyinginformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.

• Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.

• Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED

• Technicalproficiencywith standard procedures,techniquesand common practices

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Formal phlebotomy certification

• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with a clinical rotation/externship

Physical Requirements:

• Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.

• Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.

• Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
