Job description

Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to the collection staff during blood drives or at branches. Performs phlebotomy and collection procedures according to the organization’s policies, FDA regulations, and AABB standards. Responsible for driving the blood mobile if assigned to mobiles.

The following essential functions are representative of the duties within this role. Omission of any does not preclude management from assigning related duties.

1. Lead, instruct, and guide collection staff; assign meal/break periods.
2. Ensure staff compliance with policies and procedures.
3. Obtain medical history and vital signs from donors/patients.
4. Perform blood collection procedures.
5. Complete shift responsibilities, review donor records for accuracy.
6. Support donor recruitment and collection goals.
7. Ensure equipment functionality and supplies availability.
8. Monitor deferrals and performance; identify training needs.
9. Provide excellent customer service and communicate issues to recruitment staff.
10. If assigned to mobiles, operate and drive blood mobile and other collection vehicles.

Qualifications include:

• High school diploma or equivalent plus six months of related experience.
• CDL license and training if working on mobiles; CPR certification.
• Skills in reading, writing, organizing, following instructions, communication, and computer literacy.
• Ability to operate mobile vehicles and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Physical demands involve lifting up to 50 pounds, moving objects, climbing, stooping, standing for extended periods, and manual dexterity. For mobiles, driving large vehicles is required.

The work environment may include outdoor and indoor settings, exposure to weather, blood-borne pathogens, and mobile unit vibrations. Moderate noise levels are typical.
