Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) per lab policies to ensure timely specimens.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and bedside labeling to prevent errors.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the lab while maintaining sample integrity and safety.
• Explains procedures to patients to provide reassurance and a positive experience.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety controls.
• Documents patient and specimen information accurately in the lab system for regulatory compliance.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and completes tasks efficiently.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including recollects as needed.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to safety requirements and hospital procedures to ensure accreditation compliance.
