Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary:

Collect blood from patients of all ages as required by physician orders, including difficult patients. Access lab orders, process blood for testing, perform Point of Care testing, and respond to inquiries.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform blood drawing procedures with high skill, using standard techniques and equipment. Answer questions about specimens and tests.
  • Handle specimen processing duties, maintain specimen integrity, and comply with transport/storage requirements.
  • Perform point of care testing.
  • Respond promptly to emergency requests, manage conflicting priorities, and direct others as needed.
  • Understand the impact of your role on patient care and maintain good relationships.
  • Prioritize and decide on specimen collection and processing tasks independently.
  • Maintain a clean workstation, manage inventory, and reduce waste.
  • Maintain competency in phlebotomy, specimen processing, and testing; train others and develop skills.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance.
  • Organize workload to meet institutional needs, work independently and in teams, and lead as needed.
  • Follow hospital policies on patient safety, report errors, and participate in quality improvements.
  • Meet ongoing education requirements and promote professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • 1 to 3 years
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED. Completion of LNA, phlebotomy, or lab assistant certification preferred.
