A Day in the Life of a Phlebotomist
Phlebotomists perform blood draws, specimen collection, legal blood alcohol and urine drug screen collections for hospital and non-hospital patients of all ages. This role ensures the accurate identification, collection, and transportation of samples while maintaining patient privacy, comfort and safety. The phlebotomist follows strict infection control protocols, maintains accurate collection information, and communicates effectively with patients and a multitude of other healthcare staff. This position responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to phlebotomy/specimen collection.

Here is What You Will Be Doing:- Perform phlebotomy procedures (venipuncture, capillary and heel stick) on patients of all age levels.
- Perform specimen collection according to established laboratory procedures.
- Identify all patients following laboratory/hospital policy which conform to the National Patient Safety Guidelines. Label all specimens following established laboratory procedures.
- Complete blood bank specimen collection accurately and completely according to established blood bank procedures to ensure proper patient identification and safe blood transfusions.
- Communicate with patients and family members in a way that can be easily understood.
- Address patient concerns and provide clear explanations about procedures. Assist patients in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner.
- Obtain feedback regarding specimen collection instructions and post-phlebotomy instructions as necessary.
- Perform error free legal blood alcohol and urine drug screen collection and accurately complete all paperwork.
Desired Skills:- Basic knowledge and understanding of hospital and laboratory compliance programs.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Here is What You Need:- High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree
- Valid USA driver’s license
- Must have clean driving record that follows Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s driving guidelines
Nice to Have:- Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy training course
- Previous experience in phlebotomy or healthcare
