Overview

Primary City/State: Prescott, Arizona. Department: Phlebotomy. Work Shift: Day.

Position Summary

This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). The role may provide coverage at multiple locations and is responsible for the collection, receipt, entry, preparation, and distribution of biological specimens for analytical testing. The phlebotomist performs specified analytical testing as assigned and follows the Code of Conduct, established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.

Responsibilities

1. Specimen Collection and Processing
   • Collect specimens for specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing, or referral laboratory processing.
   • Ensure correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity using appropriate techniques for all age criteria.
   • In IOP locations, manage client relationships within compliance regulations.
2. Data Entry and Verification
   • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, test requests, time and date of collection, clinical information, and all requisition data.
   • Verify accuracy of entered information, appropriateness of specimens, and label aliquots according to departmental procedures.
   • Deliver specimens to the technical area in a timely manner and perform initial processing and preparation for transport.
   • Assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees.
3. Quality Assurance
   • Ensure all work performed is accurate and complete.
   • Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol and follow established methods.
   • Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures and record communications appropriately.
   • Initiate computer‑generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring.
   • Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality and participate in committees or Six Sigma teams.
4. Financial and Material Stewardship
   • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials.
   • Avoid excessive waste and participate in initiatives to reduce costs and improve service.
   • Apply basic knowledge of billing.
5. Customer Service and Communication
   • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers.
   • Interact with co‑workers with an emphasis on teamwork and customer service.
   • Resolve basic service issues and attend meetings to remain current with internal and external communications.
6. Patient Rights and Privacy
   • Know and apply the importance of Patient Rights and privacy (HIPAA).

Physical Demands and Environmental Factors

Stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently. Lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids, chemical, electrical and biological hazards. Must use computer, printers, copiers, telephone, fax and department‑specific equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum age requirement of 18.
• High school diploma or equivalent (state regulatory requirements).
• Completion of a phlebotomy program or relevant experience.
• Valid phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
• Possession of DHS fingerprinting certification or ability to obtain it.
• Valid state driver’s license and eligibility for company auto insurance.
• Flexibility for multiple locations, flexible hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, on‑call duties.
• Ability to travel and work mobile or in‑office phlebotomy locations with minimal notice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish and English.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Additional related education or experience.
