Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to verify patient identification, assess reactions to specimen collection, and perform venipuncture for newborns to adults in accordance with established protocols.

You will label specimens, resolve identification or requisition issues, conduct limited CLIA-compliant testing, manage calls and inventory, enter results in the system, and train staff and students while supporting billing and other functions.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient identification and assess reactions to specimen procurement.
• Perform venipuncture and collect specimens from newborns to adults per protocol.
• Label specimens correctly and resolve identification or requisition issues.
• Perform limited testing under CLIA according to procedures.
• Manage phones, inventory, and assist with billing and other functions.
• Prepare and track specimens for transport and testing; respond to additional requests.
• Enter results in the computer system; run quality controls.
• Instruct staff and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Ensure age-appropriate care and adapt to patient needs per policies.
