Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety and assesses reactions to specimen procurement.
• Performs Venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; resolves identification problems.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to policies.
• Answers calls, assists with inventory, supports Billing and other functions.
• Packages and tracks specimens for transport; processes for testing and maintains correct IDs.
• Orders and verifies test requests; runs quality control; notifies providers of abnormal results.
• Performs laboratory result entry and participates in proficiency testing.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific care and growth/development considerations.
